Evaluation Statement:
I chose to share this essay in my E-Portfolio because it focuses on the question of “Who are we?” I wrote about a Lebanese American who immigrated to the United States in the early 20th century. I decided to make my character a Lebanese immigrant because I am also a Lebanese American. I was interested in learning more about the history of Lebanon and about my ancestors in order to understand why they immigrated to the United States. I found that this would be a very unique way of understanding who I am, and how I fit into the “we” in the question. Considering that this was the first essay that I’d written for an honors course, it did not showcase the tools that I have picked up since. However, I chose it because I can compare it to my future essays in order to see my progress. It can also benefit my professional career because it would enable potential employers to see my growth over time. This essay expanded my creativity because it was written in the form of a narration. Overall, it helped me learn about both my origins and my hometown of Detroit.
