HONORS 4930

Service:
One of the four pillars of the Honors College is service. As part of the Detroit Fellows Tutoring Project, I was able to understand the importance of giving back to underprivileged communities, specifically Detroit. Even though I have done a lot of volunteering throughout my high school career, I had never tutored children in the Detroit Public Schools. This experience helped me see how little resources many of the DPS schools have. Students from lower-class families deserve to receive the same opportunities and resources as students from wealthier families. Through this tutoring program, we were able to provide students who are struggling with an opportunity to get extra resources in order to succeed. As a student majoring in Computer Science, I realized the importance of creating many programs that can help underprivileged students be exposed to different areas of study. My goal is to start volunteering with different groups that expose students from the DPS to programming and computer science.
